SUCCESS

The potential for successful development in the Estuary is assured by two main factors:

  • The internationally renowned business environment
  • The array of government agency supports and services.

Ireland has a proven track record of successfully hosting large-scale investment projects and consistently attracts a share of FDI disproportionate to its population size.

  • Pro-Business Environment: ranked 11 from 82 countries by the Economist Intelligence Unit (2008-2012),
  • Favourable Tax Regime: in addition to a corporation tax rate of just 12.5%, many other incentives and supports are available, with a particular focus on R&D ,
  • Young, Talented Workforce: with over 35% of the workforce under 25, a strong and dynamic higher education sector and participation rate, and a well developed skill base in key technical and managerial disciplines
  • Management Talent: over 60% of graduates have a business-related discipline, and a legacy of decades of development has resulted in a deep cadre of seasoned professional managers with global experience

A dedicated agency, IDA (Industrial Development Authority), provides a one-stop shop for all potential investors, providing guidance and assistance in all aspects of project conception, start-up and ongoing development, and remaining as a single point of contact for all regulatory matters.

Irish governments have been strongly supportive of the maritime sector, recognising the rich heritage of Ireland’s involvement with the sea and shipping, as well as the great potential to avail of our pivotal position and resources. For example, IMDO, the Irish Marine Development Office, was established as an independent agency dedicated to furthering all aspects of maritime development in Ireland. Considerable investment has also been made in training and skills, including the foundation of the National Maritime College of Ireland to provide third-level education in marine disciplines
