INFRASTRUCTURE

The Shannon Estuary is host to some of the most sophisticated marine and industrial operations in Europe today. Experienced marine personnel ensure the safety and efficiency of vessels operating within the port area, and all systems have been independently accredited to ISO 9001:2008 by Lloyds Registry Quality Assurance.

The Estuary currently welcomes the largest ships entering Irish State Waters, up to 200,000 dwt. The Lower Estuary, up to Tarbert, is capable of accepting ships up to 400,000 Tonnes.

Ships are handled using modern technology to improve safety and efficiency; state of the art pollution control procedures and equipment are in place. Consent has also been given for a major LNG terminal development,  following extensive review of the relevant marine and environmental issues, thus ensuring that the requirements for future developments have been benchmarked to the highest standards.
